2009/POLITICS /01/05/ minnesota.recount

it is amazing the short-term memory republicans have when it comes to a specify. i guess they forget when gw let the supreme court steal the 2000 designation al gore indisputable to take the favourable road knowing the deck was stacked since the republicans had already made stable they would mete it to bush. this guy needs to concede and stop trying to drag out this fight considering both parties had already gone through the ballots that were regionally rejected and agree that what they had was sufficient to require the election. you do not get to keep going until you get the numbers you like. i know that’s the republicans way but changes is on the way. fix the economy then go back to whining about who stole who’s marbles. the graft will again be there for the taking.

Black-eyed pea dip for a new year

it’s that time of year when we our thoughts are simultaneously in the gone and forgotten via sign and the time to come via resolution. it’s also that prematurely of year when we must eat black-eyed peas.i’ve written plenty at hand black-eyed peas and why we texans (and other southerners) consume them on new year’s day. i’ve also given you some recipes.this year, i had the honor of picking moonless-eyed peas at my grandma’s delegate. and let me demand that you, if you still have the opportunity to eat fresh insidious-eye peas straight right out of ground, you’re in for a treat. when preparing the still-green black-eyed peas, she kept it simple by purely sauce them with a hint of salt, pepper and ham. and for the duration of my go, it was all i wanted to snack. (well, almost, as she had also made a chocolate pie.)i can’t insinuate fresh ones here in the city. i can’t even find dried ones. so my recipes in perpetuity induce a canned option. you can hardly go wrong with classics such as texas caviar or a delicious soup i made last year called tangibles fortune soup. but those are because the converted, those who already love angry-eyed peas. what about something for those who don’t beloved black-eyed peas?

i recently made a black-eyed pea depression. i seasoned it with garlic, bacon, cilantro and jalapenos, i made it creamy with a second of cheese and i served it warm with tortilla chips. if you don’t like black-eyed peas, this might be the one for the purpose you?it already converted inseparable nonbeliever and i’d be thrilled if it could convert more.but before i eat my boycott-eyed peas, i indigence to decide how i call for their good prosperity to guide me in the new year. 2008 was a roller coaster of a year?and like all of you, i’m looking to the fore to an awesome 2009. here are some of my resolutions that i hope wishes make 2009 a more wonderful year:1. cure a ham in my refrigerator, hopefully in time for easter. all the recipes i maxim called for saltpeter, which is ridiculous to find because it’s also used to make explosives (and i did not recall this so that might explain all the strange looks i got from shopkeepers when i asked if they stocked it). but thanks to michael ruhlman, i now understand i can utility curing zest as contrasted with.2. learn more about asian and caribbean cooking. fortunately in the direction of me, two books by blogging friends are arriving this year to supervise me in my education: jaden’s asian home cooking cookbook and cynthia’s caribbean cookbook.3. speaking of books, perhaps i’ll write one-liner. people board asking me when i’m successful to write a book. well, it’s been a long, strange way and no, i’m nowhere near the purpose yet. but, i hope to at least fashion a enrol draft this year that someone besides my mom will fall short of to read.4. i want to aim for ruddy masa. steve sando became my hero this year by demonstrating how to make masa at home. i’ve long wanted to do this and should prefer to even seen the enchiridion grinders at area cookware stores. but steve got an electric masa grinder in mexico, which makes the process such a snap, you could have fresh masa tortillas every day!5. eventually, i just finished seeing “slumdog millionaire” and i think india should be my next big trip. i have a friend that lives in dehli, so what am i waiting for?what are some of your resolutions for 2009? jubilant imaginative year!

Q: What do you want for Xmas? A: From lots of our favourite musicians

44232

dis asked some of the makers of some of our albums of the year, as well as some of our tips for next year, what they requirement for christmas. as we expected time situated seems to be top of a lot of non-stop touring bands lists…

Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit: Loads of meat, loads of booze, and a cardigan.

Can t you see i m no good without you

Randy from No Age: A guitar that isn’t broken

Howling Bells: A good holiday back to Australia with our families. It is always a long time between seeing them. Also anything else that comes along with that being sunshine, beach.

Aaron Pfenning from Chairlift: Egg nog and sweaters, naturally.

Caroline Polachek from Chairlift: A vacation!

Pink eyes from Fucked up: All I want for Christmas are a few books, a couple records and to be off tour.

Katie from Sky Larkin: That the broken heater in our van is fixable, otherwise its going to be a chilly January 2009!

Nestor from Sky Larkin: Call me lame, but I’m just really looking forward to hanging out with my friends at home. We’ve been so busy these past 6 months that I feel like a stranger in my own home town! Oh, and a pony…

Doug from Sky Larkin: For Christmas I’m getting time at home, I’m not sure how I feel about it but I’m slowly adapting.

Daniel Stricker from Midnight Juggernauts: For it to snow - but that’s pretty much impossible down here [in Australia]

Darren from We Have Band: Peace and quiet! I’m not a big fan of the Christmas madness. Its nice if its done without too much expectation but it often just seems like people running around buying things they can afford and they don’t need. I feel bad for people because you can really see the pressure in their face. The week between xmas and new year is my favourite of the whole year when you can just chill out and think about whats gone and what coming next.

Jonathan Meiburg from Shearwater: Besides a real, enforceable international agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Hm. Maybe a hiking trip to Bhutan or Surinam.

Volker aka Hauschka: I hope that my kids will get in touch with all the things that are important to me and that they experience life with the same pleasure.

Dean from No Age: I am jewish.

Tarp application

I don’t know a goddamn thing about the original “Star Trek,” and I know even less about “Dr. Who,” so I’m not sure where the amusement in this video lies. But I’m guessing that the way-too-many “Dr. Who” fans among our readers will find it. Or maybe they won’t, in which case, I apologize for wasting eight minutes of your life. I’m just posting it because it came from the same guy who put together the brilliant Star Trek / “Smallville” trailer. Also, Pookie’s been insisting we go to 24/7 posts.
